Musical duo Electric Fields, hailing from Mimili in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands (APY) of South Australia, will represent Australia at this year's Eurovision to be held in Malmö, Sweden in May.
Made up of vocalist Zaachariaha Fielding and keyboard player and producer Michael Ross, the duo will be the first South Australian act to appear for the nation at the popular international song competition since Guy Sebastian in 2015.
They will perform their newest dance anthem One Milkali, which loosely translates to ‘One Blood’ and represents the band’s dream for a world where we are all united.
The multi-award winning duo, who have performed at some of the biggest festivals throughout Australia, Asia, Europe and the United States, is assisted by the South Australian Government's Music Development Office (MDO).
The MDO is committed to supporting live music in the state, and recently committed an additional $1 million in grants through its See it LIVE program, to help cover costs associated with presenting live music in 2024.
Electric Fields thanked the Office for its support: “We would like to thank the Music Development Office and gratefully acknowledge their ongoing support in the development of our artistry and efforts in bringing Electric Fields to the world."
Eurovision fans will remember Electric Fields from Eurovision - Australia Decides - the SBS national selection show held in 2019. Electric Fields came a close second to Kate Miller-Heidke, with their unforgettable track 2000 And Whatever.
Australia first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015, making us the second country outside of the Eurasia region to take part after Morocco in 1980. Australia’s participation was initially set to be a one-off event, but we have continued to participate every year since.
Australia has finished five times in the top 10, with the highest result being a second-place finish in 2016 from Dami Im.
The 2024 Eurovision Song Contest will be held from 7-11 May 2024. For more information, visit the Eurovision website.
