Rail services to return to public hands

The operational function of all South Australian trains and trams will return to public hands by 2025.

Current train operator Keolis Downer Adelaide and tram operator Torrens Connect will return operational functions of rail services to public hands, with no impacts to services during the training period and Adelaide Metro operations continuing to run as normal.

Under the deal, customer service and security management functions will be controlled by the state government by June 2027, while the maintenance of SA’s trains will remain with Keolis Downer Adelaide until 2035.
